One of the biggest hurdles to clean energy projects in Nigeria isn't the idea, it's the journey from concept to a bankable project. Too many promising ventures stall between proposal and financing, tangled in approvals and disconnected agencies. Enugu State is determined to change that story.

On 20th of August 2026, the Enugu State Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment, with support from GIZ NESP and the Federal Ministry of Power, launched the One Stop Investment Platform (OSIP) for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, a digital portal designed to make the investment journey simpler and faster for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in the state.

Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, Honorable Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment, tied OSIP to Enugu's ease of doing business agenda, pointing to the state's digitalization of taxation and land administration through ENGIS as proof that structured, transparent processes work, and stressing that energy access underpins every other investment ambition the state holds.

GIZ NESP praised Enugu's leadership in subnational electricity market reform, calling it a reference point for state level regulation in Nigeria. Dr. Chuka Akunne, representing EERC Chairman/CEO Chijioke M. Okonkwo, shared the Commission's progress and its continued commitment to partnering with GIZ NESP and the Federal Ministry of Power.

Professor Chukwumerije Okereke, Senior Special Adviser on Climate Policy and Sustainable Development to the Governor, noted that under His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, climate alignment is treated as a guiding principle of the state's investment strategy, not an afterthought.

The day closed with the formal constitution of a Technical Working Committee on OSIP, bringing together key Ministries, Departments and Agencies. Four working groups were tasked with turning the day's commitments into concrete operating procedures and timelines.

Enugu State is sending a clear signal: it wants to be where renewable energy investors build, not just where they visit.
